Daniel Hugh Cheney passed away on June 18, 2018, after a brief struggle with lung cancer. He died at home in the company of family and his companion golden retriever, Maize. Dan was born in Detroit, Michigan. His father, Cooley King was a tool and die tradesman, and his mother, Viola, a homemaker. From 1951 to 1952, Dan served in the 31st Infantry Division in the Korean War where he saw combat, memories of which remained throughout his life. Dan married his high school sweetheart, Betty Prevost, in 1953, with whom he had four children. Upon completion of his journeyman’s apprenticeship as a tool and die maker, he entered the field of engineering as a draftsman in the defense industry, and later worked in the automobile industry before eventually entering the field of metal – based parts manufacturing. In 1979, he became vice president of QSP, where he met A. Sue Miller, whom he married in 1982. Dan was a self-taught artist and enjoyed painting, woodworking, cooking and gardening.  He was also a natural leader, who inspired those around him to excel. His children, of whom he was immensely proud, adopted his traits of independent thinking, hard work and devotion to excellence. Dan was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather, a loyal friend and good neighbor. His intelligence, wit and sometimes dark humor will be greatly missed. Dan is survived by his wife Sue, his son Mitch and his wife, Libby, and their children Alex, Zach and Katie and her husband, Colin Dyroff; his son Dan and his wife Rose, and their daughter Carol and Dan’s son Jonathon; his daughter Lynn and her husband, Henry Feinberg, and their children Will and Nicole; his granddaughter, Jessica Soulliere, and her son Shane and daughter Lucy; his grandson, Jason and his wife Tammi. Jessica and Jason are the children of Dan’s eldest son, Tom, who passed away in 2011.  He is also survived by his brother Ralph and his wife Lenore. Dan lived a full life and had few regrets. For many of us who loved him, he leaves the world a smaller place. A celebration of Dan’s life will take place at 3:30 PM, Saturday, June 23, at his home at 3024 Box Canyon Road SE, Huntsville, Alabama.
