Athens Mayor’s Youth Commission Visits Birdie Thornton Center

ATHENS-The Athens Mayor’s Youth Commission held its last meeting of the school year at the Birdie Thornton Center to learn about services provided for those of all abilities on Wednesday, May 2. The students learned about services Birdie Thornton provides for citizens of all abilities.

The Birdie Thornton Center clients explained how they learn various skills from computer to cooking, and how they give back to the community. The goal of the Athens Mayor’s Youth Commission is to teach students about local government and their city, and teach them how to be engaged and informed citizens.
