FLORENCE-The world of travel is constantly evolving, as is the way in which travelers want to experience a destination. Airbnb was founded in 2008 to meet that need and has become a trusted marketplace for people to list and book unique accommodations. Florence and Lauderdale County currently have over 60 listings on the Airbnb site that range from a room in home, downtown lofts, lake houses to a bed in barn.  The fastest growing demographic of Airbnb owner are retirees.

As a way to help this growing segment of our tourism product, Florence/Lauderdale Tourism is hosting an informational Airbnb meeting for local owners and those wanting the research becoming an owner. The event will take place at the Florence/Lauderdale Tourism Visitor Center in McFarland Park on April 19 from 5:00 pm. to 6:30 p.m.  Owners will have the opportunity to meet each other and be treated to panel discussion on best practices, promotion, security and other important information.

Florence/Lauderdale Tourism Director of Operations Alison Stanfield stated, “Our local Airbnb rentals collect lodging tax and we are seeing growth in that market.  We wanted to organize a meeting for owners as a way to form a network and educate them on what resources their local CVB staff and Visitor Center can offer in the way of brochures, event schedules and other promotion.  We hope to see new properties open in the future and help showcase another unique aspect of our destination.”

For additional information on attending the meeting contact 256-740-4141 or if you are interested in booking or listing visit www.airbnb.com.
