Jan Weir Johnson, 71, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away Sunday.  Jan was born in Decatur, Alabama and graduated from Decatur High School and George Peabody College. Jan enjoyed a successful career as an Interior Designer and Construction Consultant.

Jan loved her children, Wendy and Craig, and her grandchildren, Lesley, Kassidy, Jayli, and Maggie Jo. She was very proud her of her new great-grandchild, Lilah. Jan was married to her best friend, Vernon Johnson, for 24 years. She was passionate about her church, New Salem Baptist. Jan’s life was blessed by Morris and Sarla Scherlis and their three daughters, Kalli, Raquel, and Sophia. Jan believed that love possessed an endless quantity and that family consisted of those you loved most.

She was preceded in death by her parents, RJ and Clara Thompson; and her sister, Joye Diane Thompson. Survivors include her husband, Vernon Johnson; her children, Wendy Weber (Daniel) of Huntsville, Alabama and Craig Johnson (Karen) of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 18th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 19th at 10:30 a.m. at New Salem Baptist Church, 314 James Road, Owens Cross Roads, AL 35763 with Pastor Michael Shaneyfelt officiating. A graveside service will follow at Huntsville Memory Garden located at 6810 University Drive NW, Huntsville, AL 35806. A reception for family and friends will follow the graveside service at New Salem Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Craig Johnson, Daniel Weber, Morris Scherlis, Raymond Fennell, Dan Beddingfield, DeWayne Clayton; and honorary pallbearers, Randy Duck and C.L. Duck.
