Charles Randolph Chittam – Obituary

Charles Randolph Chittam, age 81, of Athens, Alabama, passed away at his home surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. He was born February 15, 1936, in Limestone County to Jefferson Cortez Chittam and Odell Bridges Chittam.

Services will be Saturday, January 13, 2018 2:00 p.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Guy McDaniel officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.

Randolph married his high school sweetheart, Wynette Griggs and they celebrated their 62nd anniversary on December 10, 2017.

He retired from Redstone Arsenal after 32 years. During that time he travelled extensively to Saudi Arabia serving as a logistics specialist. He was a member of the Alabama National Guard and a graduate of Athens State College. After retirement he joined his brothers in the real estate business. One of Randolph’s greatest joys in life next to his family was his 20 plus years of coaching Little League baseball and Pee Wee football. He enjoyed participating in team sports with his brothers and loved the rivalry between them. He was an avid bowler and golfer. Randolph was a lifelong member of O’neal Church of Christ.

Randolph was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Ronald, Bobby and Wade Chittam.

He is survived by his wife, Wynette Chittam; three daughters, Cindy Schlosser and husband, Rod, Shea Lewter and husband, Kent and Anissa Greene and husband, Bobby Earl; five grandchildren, Blair Schlosser, Cole Lewter, Brett Lewter, Riley Greene and Chloe Greene; two step-grandchildren, Patrick Schlosser and wife, Stephanie, and Brooke Schlosser; one great-grandchild, Easton Greene; one step-great-grandchild, Jackson Schlosser; two sisters, Billie Clem and Joyce Moffitt, and one brother, Hubert Chittam and wife, Judy; two sister-in-laws, Carolyn Chittam and Angie Chittam; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Don Sloan and wife, Kathy.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Earl Greene, Kent Lewter, Rod Schlosser, Don Sloan, Brett Lewter and Cole Lewter.

In lieu of flowers make memorials to Hospice of Limestone County.
