James William “Jimmy” Davis, age 74, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, following an extended illness, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Jimmy was born July 7, 1943, in Mobile, Alabama, the son of the late John Herbert Davis and Mary Goodwin Davis. On July 16, 1964, he married Irene Reed Curtis Davis.
A 1962 graduate of Hay Long High School, Jimmy was a great family man who loved his family very much. He was a Christian man who attended Mt. Pleasant Church of God and loved his Lord and Savior very deeply. He loved going out on the river as “Captain” of his pontoon boat with family. Family vacations in Florida brought much joy and happiness into his life. Jimmy also was an avid NASCAR fan. In 1998, he retired as a Maintenance Supervisor with Astra Zeneca, formerly Stauffer Chemical Company.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Reed Curtis Davis of Mt. Pleasant; his children, James William “Will” (Deborah) Davis, Jr., of Nashville, Terry (Shannon) Curtis of Mt. Pleasant and Tony (Brenda) Curtis of Summertown; grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Katie Davis, Tabitha Curtis, Erica Curtis, Candace Nolen, Cayce Sims, Charity Neally, Derrick Curtis, Noah Curtis, Terry Daniel Curtis, John Burnley, Nick Burnley and Brandon Workman and several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; sister Judy (Chuck) Rodgers of Nashville and brothers, John H. (Gay Nell) Davis, Jr., George (Ann) Davis of Columbia, Terry “Diehard” (Debbie) Davis of Maury County and Mike (Diane) Davis of Mt. Pleasant.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Taffy Lynn Davis and a grandson, Brett Curtis and by two sisters, Catheryn Horton and Mary Louise Davis.
Funeral services for Jimmy will be conducted Friday, January 5, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with sons, Tony and Terry Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 11:00 A.M. until service time, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Shane Davis, Phillip Vandiver, Jeff Reed, Timmy Davis, Noah Curtis, Derrick Curtis, Nick Burnley and John Burnley. Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. Holt, Robert Woods, Ken McFarland and friends from his racing days, Dr. Kennedy, Dr. Young and Dr. Horn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mt. Pleasant Church of God, 507 Walnut Street, Mt. Pleasant, TN 38474.
