Search Continues For Possible Drowning Victim Near Aberdeen, MS

MONROE COUNTY, MS -The Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell received a 9-1-1 call on Wednesday, July 4 about a possible drowning.

According to authorities the possible drowning of a 53-year-old woman occurred near the lock and dam where Devil’s Elbow flows into the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway close to the Highway 45 bridge in Aberdeen .

 

The name of the woman has not been released at this time.

The  area called the Devil’s Elbow close to the Highway 45 bridge in Aberdeen was searched until about 9 PM.  The search will continue on Wednesday, July 6.

An airplane has assisted the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, the Monroe County Volunteer Search and Rescue Team and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in the search.

Search crews, including ones from Amory, Hatley and Columbus, reported to the river Wednesday morning to help.
