ATHENS-Listening Lounge – a free event for the community – is Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at High Cotton Arts at 103 West Washington Street in Downtown Athens.

This month’s guest is Jim Owens Jr., a self-described author-poet-cowboy-philosopher trapped in the body of a banker. Jim is a graduate of Birmingham-Southern College and is president of FirstBank in Madison.

He will speak about his book “Long Trail Home,” a journey of self-discovery drawing wisdom from some of the world’s greatest spiritual, philosophical and literary traditions. The tale follows young Matthew Masterson, who leaves a life of wealth and privilege and the demanding expectations of his father. From youth to adulthood, Matthew must face challenges from within and without, driving him to answer the question: What path will I walk?
