Mary Frances Jones Rivers – Obituary

Mary Frances Jones Rivers, 79, of Decatur passed away on April 24, 2017 in Hoover. Funeral service will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 2 p.m. with Mark Posey officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Frances was born on Aug. 27, 1937 in Decatur to the late Walter and Lucille Golden Jones. She was a 1955 graduate of Austinville High School and attended Anderson Business College. Frances spent most of her working life in the insurance business. She helped establish and was a shareholder of the Rankin Shelton Hunter Insurance Agency. Frances was a long-time member of the Austinville Church of Christ. She enjoyed writing poetry, received several poetry awards, and was published in two anthologies; Cosmic Brownies and As Minutes Turn to Hours.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Rivers; an infant brother, John Jones and sister-in-law, Sara Bowlin. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca McCrary, son-in-law James McCrary; granddaughter, Charlotte McCrary; sister, Barbara Stetler; brother, Tommy (Judy) Jones; brother-in-law, Marvin (Martha) Rivers; sister-in-law, Sandra Arnold and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other family members.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of UAB Women’s and Infants Center, UAB Hazelrig-Salter Radiation Oncology Center, Kindred Hospice and Roselawn Funeral Home for their compassionate care. Special thanks to the Austinville Church of Christ, family and friends for their love and support.
