TUSCUMBIA-On Friday, March the 10th, the Colbert County Republican Executive Committee hosted an event to announce that Probate Judge Daniel Rosser has joined the Republican Party. The event was held at the Northwest Shoals Hospitality House.

Terry Lathan, Chairwoman of the Alabama Republican party, along with other elected officials, were in attendance. A reception hosted by the Republican Women of the Shoals was held after Rosser’s speech.

Rosser state he was faced with a dilemma two years ago that caused him to question his political affiliation.  Rosser said there were several people who helped lay the groundwork for his decision, including Colbert County Commissioner David Black and his sister, Debbie, Colbert County Executive Committee Chairman Fred Joly, and Revenue Commissioner Tommy Oswalt.

Rosser’s speech:

“Good Afternoon.  Let me begin by thanking our host, Dr. Lee, President of Northwest Shoals, the Colbert County Republican Executive Committee, and the Republican women of the Shoals.  A good friend once told me’ ‘God doesn’t want our success, he wants our obedience’.  It is in that spirit that I join the Republican Party.  In today’s political climate, Republican values mirror my own conservative values.

There are so many people who have helped lay the groundwork for what I’ve done today.  David and Debbie Black have become valued friends. Fred Joly has assisted me at every step. Tommy Oswalt has been an example of true public service.  Huston Cobb has inspired me and Commissioner Purdue along with Judges Allen, Moore, and Motlow have encouraged me.

Former Judge Terry Mitchell always says that Probate Judges have the best job in the courthouse.  I think he’s right because Probate Judges are a voice for the voiceless.  Whether it’s a neglected child hoping for adoption, a neglected parent praying for compassionate care, or protecting the estate of a deceased loved one, in probate court, the voiceless always have a voice.

To my wife, Tina I say thank you for your unconditional love.  You’ve been trying to talk me into becoming a republican for even longer than Trey Edwards has.  And to my daughter Charley, I say that what I’m doing today, I do for you too.  Because I want you to have just as good a life as I have had.  I want you to live in a country that continues to put God, Country and family first.

Thanks and have a good afternoon.”
