Laverne Crow White, 93, of Decatur was born on Oct. 21, 1923 and passed away Feb. 14, 2017. She was a lifelong resident of Decatur and was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, M.H. “Buddy” White. Buddy was a Decatur firefighter for 30 years. Laverne was also predeceased by her parents and five siblings. She is survived by her children, David White and wife, Donna of Harvest, Sherry Smith and husband, Kenny of Trinity, Dan White and wife, Betty of Decatur and Ellen Duren of Decatur; 10 grandchildren, 21 great- grandchildren, four great- great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends who she considered her family.
Laverne was an active member of Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church for over 70 years. She was an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed sewing for her family and friends.
Laverne will have a visitation on Saturday, Feb. 18th at Sixteenth Avenue Baptist from 10:30 a.m. to noon with a funeral service to follow in the sanctuary with Brother Thomas Farris and Brother John Alley officiating. Burial will be in New Friendship Baptist Church. Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home is assisting the family.
