Virginia Carolyn Lynch Lambert – Obituary

virginiaVirginia Carolyn Lynch Lambert, 92, of Florence, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 28, 2015. She was born January 17, 1923, in Opelika, Alabama. She graduated from Opelika High School, and in 1940 she married the love of her life, Douglas Wesley Lambert.

Mrs. Lambert worked alongside her husband at Lambert Transfer Company, the moving and storage business they founded together in Florence in 1953. The Lamberts were charter members of Woodmont Baptist Church, Florence, which initially met in their home in 1961. Virginia served faithfully in the Preschool Ministry, Homebound Ministry, and Missions Organizations of Woodmont Baptist. She served her community as a member of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary and as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. She also enjoyed traveling, needlework, gardening, reading, and hosting gatherings of family and friends in her home.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Douglas Wesley Lambert, and her parents, Leo Patterson Weber and Carl Houston Lynch of Opelika, AL.

Mrs. Lambert is survived by three sons, Douglas Wesley Lambert, Jr. and wife Patti of Decatur, AL, Donald Edward Lambert and wife Susan of Florence, Brian Leo Lambert and wife Regena of Florence. She was “Meme” to nine grandchildren: Greg Garland (Pam) of Decatur, AL, Michelle Garland Segrest of Birmingham, AL, Tim Garland (Kelly) of Decatur, AL, Wesley Lambert (Dana) of Spanish Fort, AL; Christopher Lambert (Erin) of Birmingham, AL, Laura Lambert Teal (Joshua) of Austin, TX; Rhett Lambert (Johannah) of Birmingham, Alabama, Beau Lambert (Chloe) of Atlanta, GA, Sarah Beth Lambert of Brooklyn, NY, and thirteen great-grandchildren: Allie and Phillip Garland, Shelby and Bo Segrest, Jay, Josh, and Jonathan Garland, Ashton and Wells Lambert; Meagan Lambert; Mattox and King Lambert, and Schuyler Lambert.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Virginia Lambert will be held on Monday, March 30, at 2:00 p.m. in the Worship Center of Woodmont Baptist Church in Florence. Rev. Steve Thompson and Rev. Tim Garland will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 12:30 p.m. in the vestibule of the church. A private family graveside service will be held prior to the visitation and memorial service. Meme’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Merrill Gardens, Amedisys Hospice, and Mitchell Hollingsworth Station 5, and especially Meme’s personal care givers, for their loving care and support of our family.
