Never Steal A Car While Suffering Public Intoxication

DECATUR-The Decatur Police responded to a stolen vehicle call on Tuesday, July 29th at around 7:00 pm.  This is how officers describe events leading up to the arrest of one man, Shane Lee Lepre:

SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:

“On July 29th, 2014 at approximately 7:00 PM, Officer Todd Walker of the Decatur Police Department was dispatched to a stolen vehicle call at the Chevron gas station located at 2018 6th Ave. SE. Upon arrival he met with Victoria Vaughan and John Leffers, who had a subject by the name of Shane Lee Lepre detained for the police.

Vaughan stated that she stopped at the gas station and when she went inside, she noticed someone was driving away in her 2012 GMC Terrain. Vaughan ran after her vehicle and was able to get the suspect to stop as well as get out of her vehicle.

Leffers who happened to be pulling into the gas station saw what was going on and assisted Vaughan until police arrived. Det. Matt Young of the Decatur Police Departments Criminal Investigation Division was called to the scene and Lepre was transported to the Decatur Police Department.

Subsequent to the investigation Lepre was charged with Public Intoxication and Theft of Property in the 1st Degree. Lepre will be transferred to the Morgan County Jail on a $5,500.00 bond.

Theft of Property in the 1st Degree is a class B Felony”
