TUSCUMBIA – Today marked another chapter in a bizarre scenario of suspected extortion, murder and body disposal in the Tennessee River, and a late-night street-shooting.
The man who police say critically wounded Lionell Hankins by shooting him 3 times last Monday night had his first appearance before Judge Chad Coker today. He is Gregory Lemont Williams, cousin of accused murderer Jeremy LeShaun Williams.
Gregory Lemont Williams is charged with the attempted murder of Lonell Hankins, cousin of the murdered Tuscumbia man, Brioni “Bree” Jamaal Rutland. The charges stem from an incident at the Tuscumbia residence of Bree Rutland’s step father, Samuel Hankins. There Hankins’ nephew, Lionell allegedly had an in-the-street altercation with Williams. Witnesses say that Lionell was ‘getting the best’ of Williams. And according to them, that’s when Williams drew his pistol and shot Hankins 3 times.
There has been no word on bond being set from the Court as of this writing.
