Zelma Faye (Dawson) Sockwell

Zelma Faye (Dawson) Sockwell passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022 at the Cottage of the Shoals. She was born on July 6, 1934 and was the third of eleven children born to Henry and Bessie Merle Dawson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Johnnie Eugene Sockwell; two brothers, Rayford and Jerry; four sisters, Marie Keenum, Shirley Meadows, Lynn Johnson, and Ann Bolton; and infant great grandson, Christian Beau Campbell.

She is survived by her four sisters Carolyn Davis, Linda Smith, Kaye Oliver, Terri Hardy, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a devoted mother to her four daughters, Deborah Flowers (Larry), Kathy Sockwell Fuller, Gwendolyn Kimbrough (Steven), and Angela Akins (Billy); nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Kimbrough, Clint Flowers, Zack Fuller, Reid Napier, Jeff Miller, Jon Pannell.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022 from noon until 1pm at Colbert Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to Cottage of the Shoals for their care to Mrs. Zelma during her years at the Cottage.
