Zelma Dean (White) Johnson, 87, of Somerville, Alabama, passed away on June 3, 2024.
Mrs. Johnson was born on February 19, 1937 in Piedmont, Alabama.
Mrs. Johnson, known as Ms. Zelma, Mother, and MawMaw, loved her family, her friends, and her church. She loved to tell stories and reminisce with her kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and all of the friends she talked to on the phone. She took pride in taking care of her home, her flowers, and the birds she watched from the front porch. She was known for always cooking and sharing, for having great snacks (especially chocolate), and for sending the funniest cards. She had a personality recently described by her loyal Hospice workers and precious caregivers as “feisty.” She kept you on your toes, and, whether family or friend, you never knew what to expect when you spent time with her around home, camping, or on an adventure with the Lacey’s Springers. For those and so many other reasons, she will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her children, Kathy (Jerry) Ballinger and Barry (Dawn) Johnson; grandchildren, Brandi (Jamie) Mullis, Gaven (Jennifer) Ballinger, Kasey (Brandon) Williams, and Jack Johnson; great-grandchildren, Noah Mullis, Brynn Williams, Nate Mullis, Brice Williams, Brayden Ballinger, Emma Grace Ballinger, and Baker Williams; and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death, by her husband of 67 years, Jack Johnson.
Services will be held on Friday, June 7 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Lacey’s Spring at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 am until the service begins.
