Your Brain Lives In The Past

Your brain actually lives slightly in the past of everything else, it takes a few milliseconds for your brain to comprehend what has happening around it. Therefore, everything that you have perceived to have happened in this moment, actually occurred a fraction of a second ago.

In order to test this, researchers performed a study which had a group of individuals turn on a light-bulb by pushing a button with an 80 ms delay.  When their brains got used to that delay it assumed that 80ms was an instantaneous event. After multiple test groups, the scientists changed the length of time it took for the light to turn on to 40 ms.

When people pushed the button and the light came on, they could not believe that they were the cause of the light turning on. In fact, the participants believed that the light came on BEFORE they even touched the button – This is a perfect example of how people cannot live in the present.
