Winnie Leath, 95 of Arab passed away Friday, January 26, 2024, at her home. She was born February 17, 1929, to Reverend George Walley and Flora Badgett Walley. She was married to Bill Leath who preceded her in death. One of the “greatest joys” in her life was being blessed to have five generations of family. She was a resident of the Friendship Community, a member of New Friendship Baptist Church and the New Friendship Homemakers Club. She worked for GTE until her retirement.
She attributed her long life to hard work and her belief in God. She lived through events that most people today only read about in history books. Her interests included gardening, plants, flowers and traveling. Character is developed when you treat unfortunate people nicely and expect nothing in return, she was always so kind to everyone.
She is survived by a daughter: Lynda Edwards Huckaby; grandchildren: Darlene Sheppard (Keith), Lachelle Collier, Stan Huckaby (Lisa), Kendra Brown (Joe) and Steffany Huckaby; great grandchildren: Christopher Sheppard (Tara), Mackenzie Thrower, Will Huckaby, Betsy Huckaby and Ave Franklin; great great grandchildren: Cayden Shepperd, Kensley Thrower and Grant Thrower. She was preceded by a daughter: Brenda Ashburn Jolley and a great grandchild: Ashley Collier.
There will be no formal service and she will be laid to rest at the New Friendship Cemetery, Gober Funeral Chapel assisting the Leath family.
The family would like to thank Shepherd’s Cove Hospice, who provided much loving and dignified care.
