Winford Otis Thompson, 79, passed away January 17, 2024, at Sanctuary Hospice House-Tupelo, MS. At any early age Winford, who went by the nickname Cub or Bear, started working on a farm picking cotton. As he got older, he drove tractors in Mellwood and Elaine, AR. After moving to Pontotoc, MS he began working at ER Carpenter, working there until his retirement. Cub enjoyed time spent with his brother Jim, playing bingo and buying scratch off cards.
Winford is survived by his nieces, Sharon Chunn, Brenda Nash, Lisa Seale, Cheryl Lawson all of Pontotoc, MS, and Renee Wilson of Hot Springs, AR; nephews, Cliff Horne of Hudson, FL, David Horne of Pontotoc, MS, and Chris Horne of Killeen, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Otis Winford and Vestal Sewell Thompson; brother, Jimmy Leon Thompson; sisters, Shirley Pettigrew and Patsy Brummett; nieces, Lynn Evans and Tracie Smith; and nephew, Thomas Sawyer Smith.
Services will be Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 2PM at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with visitation beginning at 1PM. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
