Wilmer Aldin Steinhauser (Al) died Thursday, February 9, 2023 in Madison, Alabama. He was 88 years old. Al was born August 11, 1934 in Kenton County, Kentucky to Wilmer and Beatrice Steinhauser. He was an only child. He graduated from Simon Kenton High School in 1952 and then from the University of Kentucky in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Army and moved to Baltimore, MD and Arlington, Virginia. In 1960, he moved to Athens Alabama to be a part of the newly-formed Missile Intelligence Agency (MIA), which later became the Missile and Space Intelligence Center (MSIC). He worked there until he retired in 1989, also earning a Master’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma. He married Linda Marie Richter in 1966.

Al was a member of the Springfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Rogersville, AL. He served as an elder there, and led the Children’s sermon for many years.

Al was an avid gardener, woodworker, and fisherman, as well as creating thousands of potholders which he gave as gifts liberally. He also enjoyed traveling with Linda, and they traveled to many states in the US, as well as Australia and Europe.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 52 years, Linda Steinhauser. He is survived by his three children: Anna Steinhauser Norton (Henry), David Steinhauser (Susan), and Edward Steinhauser (Barbara); three grandchildren: Jason Steinhauser (Jennifer), Ashley Steinhauser, and Will Norton (Juvy); and three great-grandchildren: Samantha, Arya, and Jacob.

The funeral will be held Monday, February 13, 2023 at 2:00 pm at McConnell Funeral Home in Athens, AL, with visitation preceding at 1-2 pm. Burial will be at Athens City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Springfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Rogersville, AL.
