Wilma Daniel Gattis

Wilma Daniel Gattis, 95 of Huntsville, Alabama died on August 16, 2019. The daughter of Elgie Ozelle Daniel and Bertha Mae Mullins, she was born Wilma Lou Daniel on November 8, 1923. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Charles Frank Gattis, Sr.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Charles Frank Gattis, Jr. (Judith Haisten Gattis), her daughter, Kathie Gattis Barnett (Bobby Barnett, deceased), her grandsons, Courtney Pierce Gattis (Erica Jackman Gattis) and family all of Huntsville, Jason Nicholas Gattis (Amy Whedbee Gattis) and family of Maryville, Tennessee, and Bobby Barnett (Vickey Hicklen Barnett) and family of Ardmore, AL.
Wilma graduated from Huntsville High School in 1942. She and Charles were high school sweethearts and married on August 26 of that year just before he left for service overseas. Charles’ business moved them from Huntsville to Gastonia, N.C., Cleveland, TN, Clarksville, TN, and Jacksonville, FL over the next fourteen years after he war, before they moved back to Huntsville in 1961. Wilma worked at various times in retail and as an office assistant for various companies during their marriage. In Huntsville, she was active in First United Methodist Church, Trinity United Methodist Church and the Emmaus Community. She adored her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Rd., Huntsville, with Celebration of Life services at Trinity United Methodist Church, 607 Airport Road, Huntsville, on Monday, August 19, 2019, at 2 pm, The Reverend Mack Buttram and The Reverend Coy Hallmark officiating. Interment will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens, 698 Winchester Rd., Huntsville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
