ATHENS-Keith Dunnavant, who has written about sports legends such as Bear Bryant, Joe Montana and Bart Starr, started his journalism career as an Athens teenager before becoming an award-winning writer in New York, LA and Atlanta. He is seen as a featured historian on TV including ESPN’s series The American Game and SEC Network’s Saturdays in the South.

Keith will come home to debut a documentary film about Athens High’s 1975 state championship football team. It will premiere on April 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the AHS auditorium. The film is called “Willie’s Gift.” Tickets will go on sale soon and will be $20. Proceeds will benefit Feed the Eagle, a food and nutrition program for Athens football.
The film features exclusive interviews with running back/linebacker Freddie Smith, the 3A Player of the Year who later starred at Auburn, head coach Larry McCoy, and other key players from that team.
