Celebration of Life Service for Willie Dee “W. D.” Smith Jr. is set for 1:00 pm Friday at McPeters Funeral Directors with Bro. Charlie Browning officiating. Burial will follow in the Henry Cemetery.
W. D. a lifelong resident of Alcorn Co. died September 30, 2020 at his residence in the Wenasogo Community. He was born January 30, 1932 to the late W. D. Smith and Mary Gwyn Smith. He graduated from Alcorn Agriculture High School, where he excelled in all sports. At an early age he played baseball for the Corinth Rockets Baseball Team. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, was retired after 30 years from ITT. He enjoyed all types of sports, going to ball games and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Johanna Smith; parents.
He is survived by his daughter, Melody Wallis (Andy); son, Dee Dee Smith (Pam); brother, Brack Smith (Pat); grandchildren, Jason Meeks, Josh Meeks (Jamie), Kristy Barnett (Josh), Kasey Wallis, Taylor Smith, John Tyler Stanley; 10 great grandchildren; host of other family and friends.
Pallbearers, J. B. Darnell, Donnie Cregeen, Ben Cregeen, Larry Jobe, James Fitzgerald, Todd Emmons.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the AMEN Food Pantry or Pinevale Children Home.
Family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 to service time at McPeters Funeral Directors.
