willieFuneral for Willie Clinton Scruggs Jr, 63, of Decatur, will be noon Monday at King’s Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Rod Stallworth officiating and inhumation to follow in Sterrs Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Willie Clinton Scruggs Jr. was born August 11, 1951, to Billie Dean Weames Scruggs and the late Willie Clinton Scruggs Sr. He departed this life on April 7, 2015, at River City Rehabilitation Center in Decatur. He was preceded in death by his father and his loving grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Reedus and brother-in-law, Shelby Spraggins.
He was baptized at an early age and joined Kings Memorial United Methodist Church in Decatur. He was a member of the Methodist Men. Willie loved his church family and Alabama football; he was a diehard Alabama Fan.
He attended Cherry Street Elementary School and was a graduate of the Lakeside High School Class of 1969. He enlisted in the United States Army after graduating and lived abroad until his illness brought him home.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Billie Dean Weames Scruggs, of Decatur; five sisters, Alma Reedus, of Cleveland, Ohio, Teresa Spraggins, Carolyn Scruggs and Pamela Scruggs, all of Decatur, and Elizabeth Porter (Nathaniel), of Columbus, Georgia; four brothers, Gregory Scruggs, of Decatur, Paul Scruggs of Chicago, Illinois, Ronnie (Arnell) Scruggs, of Arlington, Tenneessee, William (Dana) Scruggs, of Decatur; two aunts, Dorothy Scruggs, of Cleveland, Ohio and Delores Boswell, of Jacksonville, Florida; two special aunts, Billie Phillips and Jeanette Crayton, of Decatur and Faye Slidge, of Huntington, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
