William Wayne Myers, 79, a resident of Luverne, Alabama and formerly of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Sunday, August 25th, 2024. A graveside service for Wayne will be held at 3 PM on Thursday, August 29th, in Sulligent City Cemetery with Brother Dwain Cantrell officiating. The family will receive friends at Turners Funeral Home in Luverne on Wednesday, August 28th, from 6 to 8 PM.
Wayne’s source of strength throughout his life was his faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. When times were hard and he faced all the slings and arrows life had to throw at him, he knew that if he just clung to the Cross, everything was going to be okay. For a man who suffered so much loss in his own life, that was a powerful inspiration to all those who knew and loved him in the power of faith and prayer. In his personal life, he loved the simple life of a Southern farmer as there were few things he enjoyed more than making a good trade for a horse, donkey, or mule. He also had a great love of sports, especially when it came to the Alabama Crimson Tide and his favorite coach, Nick Saban. However, he was first and foremost a cherished supporter of Lowndes Academy sports, particularly when they featured one of his beloved grandchildren!
Wayne was an amazing study in contradictions as he was tall, broad, and strong as the horses he loved to hook up, but underneath all of that, he was really just a big teddy bear with a soft and gentle heart and a sentimental streak a mile wide. I mean, never doubt that he could be just as strong-willed and determined as anyone you might meet, but his love and generosity were just as well-known, especially when it came to his family who meant the world to him. Wayne was a remarkable example for everyone as to how far good character and moral integrity can take you in this world, and he expected nothing less from those around him as well.
His love of a good prank built scores of cherished memories of love and laughter with family and friends. Like all men, he certainly never gossiped a day in his life, but he’d be happy to update you on all the “news” over a big bowl of his favorite Blue Bell ice cream! Above all, Wayne was simply the best Daddy and Granddaddy to the ones he loved the most and there will never be enough words to capture all he was and meant to all of them. He will be missed beyond measure, but he will live on in their hearts for many more years to come as his legacy endures.
