William Thomas Nesmith, 92, Florence, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025. Visitation will be Sunday, February 2, from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield, beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Terry Stubblefield officiating.
Bill was a member of Florence First United Methodist Church. He graduated from Sheffield High School and attended Florence State Teachers College before being called up to active duty during the Korean War, where he served in the U.S. Naval Air Service. Bill retired from Reynolds Metals Company after 38 years and was a member of IBEW #558. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettye Joyce Massey Nesmith; and parents, Arthur Augustus Nesmith and Janey Maud Gray Nesmith.
Bill is survived by his children, William Karl Nesmith (Sharon Metcalfe Nesmith), Robert Ward Nesmith, and Joyce Ann Nesmith (Blane Brown); grandchildren, Summer Marie Nesmith Sikkema (Jordan) and Daniel Alexander Nesmith (Lauren); and great-grandchildren, Benjamin Eli Nesmith, Jonathan Owen Nesmith, Tenley Elizabeth Nesmith, Addison Mae Sikkema, Jack Kenneth Sikkema, and Miles William Sikkema.
Bill was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Pallbearers will be Karl Nesmith, Ward Nesmith, Daniel Nesmith, Jordan Sikkema, BJ Brown, Ben Nesmith, and Jon Nesmith. Tenley Nesmith, Addison Sikkema, Jack Sikkema, and Miles Sikkema will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Florence.
