William Royal Dickson, Sr. Profile Photo William Royal Dickson, Sr., 88, retired maintenance supervisor for Monsanto, died Saturday, October 14, 2023, at his residence in Columbia.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at First Family Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. until service time at the church. Born July 21, 1935, he was the son of the late Lebert Luther Dickson and the late Flossie Evelyn Chiles. On November 22, 1997, he married Sue Garland Dickson who preceded him in death January 6, 2023. He was a 1953 graduate of Columbia Central High School and served in the United States Army. Mr. Dickson had worked for Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home during the ambulance service years, Maury Monuments as an engraver, and mowed yards until his was 82 years old. He enjoyed coaching softball and baseball. Mr. Dickson was member of First Family Baptist Church.

 

Survivors include his son, Royal (Robin) Dickson, Jr. of Columbia; sister, Marie (Earl) Rhodes of Columbia; granddaughter, Breanna Dickson; step daughters, Amy Lindsey (Brian) Smith, Megan Lindsey (Josiah) Venter; and step grandchildren, Abigail Smith, Campbell Smith, Graham Smith, Christian Smith, Nathanael Smith, Silas Venter.

 

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Stockard; brothers, Ernest Dickson, L.T. Dickson; and sisters, Willie Mae Dickson, and Ann Dickson White.

 

Active pallbearers will be Phillip White, David White, Eric Ward, Jimmy Beadle, Brian Smith, and Josiah Venter. Honorary pallbearers include members of First Family Sunday School Class.

 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Maury Regional Medical Center 3rd floors nurses and staff.
