William Robert "Bob" Mixon, Jr. William Robert “Bob” Mixon, Jr. of Huntsville, Alabama, died peacefully in hospice care on Thursday. Bob was born in Hartselle, Alabama to Bertha Grob and William Robert Mixon, Sr. Bob graduated from Georgia Tech with degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering as a part of the V-12 Navy College Training Program. He served proudly on active and reserve duty for 40+ years, attaining the rank of Captain. After serving in Japan during the Korean War, Bob earned an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1952. He worked as a professional engineer in Wisconsin, Vermont, and California, before joining the ranks of aerospace engineers at Marshall Space Flight Center. Bob worked on numerous projects at MSFC before retiring in 1986, when he continued his love of lifelong learning with classes in German, computer science, and religion at Athens State University, completing another degree.

Bob enjoyed travel, theology, and classical music, and was an avid supporter of the arts throughout his lifetime. He was involved in several community organizations including the Genealogy Society, Huntsville Land Trust, and Community Watch. Bob was also active in the Lutheran Church/Missouri Synod, serving as an elder in several congregations during his lifetime, including Ascension Lutheran Church.

Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda Squires Mixon; one daughter, the Rev. Dr. Bonnie Mixon McCrickard; one son-in-law, Dr. Matthew P. McCrickard; and one brother-in-law, Willard D. Squires, Jr.

A memorial service for friends and family will be held at a later date.

Donations in memory of Bob Mixon may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Alabama Public Television, Huntsville Public Radio, or the C.S. Lewis Foundation.
