Graveside services for William Pierce (Jack) Hunter, Jr., 97, of Athens will be Monday, August 14th, 2023 at 10:30 am at Athens City Cemetery with the Rev. Kenny Baskins officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.
Visitation will be Monday August 14th from 9-10am at the Funeral Home.
Mr. Hunter died Friday, August 11th, 2023 at home. He was born February
19th, 1926, in Athens, Al. to William Pierce Hunter Sr. and Percy Garner Hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and loving wife of 62 years, Bobbie
Windham Hunter, two sister Sarah Hunter Smith, and Martha Hunter DeBusk.
Mr. Hunter was a member of First Methodist Church, Athens. During World
War II he was a Tail Gunner on a B-17, stationed in England. He worked as a Land Surveyor for Mabry Engineering in Decatur, Al, which became Pugh Wright McAnally, Inc.
Mr. Hunter is survived by a son William Pierce (Bill) Hunter, III (Ellen Lightfoot)
of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. A daughter Cathy Hunter of Athens, Al., grandchildren, Bryan William Hunter (Amy) of Chatham, NY, Adam Barton Hunter (Kristen) of Saluda, North Carolina, and great granddaughter Hannah Michelle Hunter of Fayetteville, West Virginia, and several nieces and nephews.
Pall Bearers will be Fred Bickley, Brady Aderholt, Jack Cunningham, Bryan Kiep.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ewell Smith, the Golfing Buddies and all of the young
Men who worked with him over the years at Mabry Engineering and Pugh Wright Mc Anally, Inc.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County
