William Otto Sammet, 87 of Athens, AL passed away Monday, July 29, 2019 at his home surrounded by family and friends. He was born December 31, 1931 in Limestone Co., AL at his family’s home. He was the son of the late Charlie Sr. and Sarah (Clement) Sammet.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Katherine Morell and Caroline Bryant; brothers, Thomas Sammet and Charlie Sammet, Jr. and great-grandson, Haden McElyea.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Willa Dean (Wallace) Sammet; daughters, Sandra Long, Cindy Roper and Deana White; sons-in-law, Lynn Long, Chris Roper and Harvey White; brother, Lewis Sammet; grandchildren, Leah McElyea (husband, Kevin), Amanda England (husband, Chris), Cody Roper (wife, Crystal), Heather Bevel (husband, Chris), Derrick Owen (wife, Kelsey), Hayley White, Jordan White and Holden White and 11 great-grandchildren.
William Sammet was a beloved Husband, Father, PawPaw and friend. He loved gardening and woodworking. Above all, he was a good Christian man; a member of Wooley Springs Church of Christ and walked in the footsteps of Christ.
The visitation for Mr. Sammet will be from 5:00-8:00PM on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Services will be at 2:00PM on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the funeral home with Matthew Carter, Steve Curtis and Harold Neeley officiating. Burial will follow in Germantown Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Cody Roper, Derrick Owen, Holden White, Kevin McElyea, Chris England and Chris Bevel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice of Madison.
