William Leslie Nelson, 66, passed into the arms of Jesus on January 9 in Decatur. He was born on January 19, 1947 in Athens to John J. and Martina N. Nelson.
Mr. Nelson graduated from Athens High School in 1965 and from Auburn University’s School of Pharmacy in 1970. He worked in retail pharmacy for 35 years and was a former member of the Athens City Council and the Athens City Board of Education.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Williams Nelson; daughters Gayle Nelson Brown and husband, Jason, of Athens and Leslianna Nelson Garlington and husband, Andy, of Franklin , TN; grandchildren Nancy Grace Brown, Nelson Truett Brown, Gray Evelyn Garlington and Eli Bain Garlington; brothers John Nelson and wife, Sandi, and Stanley Nelson; a number of nieces and nephews and his mother-in-law Nancy Sanford Williams Ludwig.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 11th at 6pm at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5pm-6pm preceding the service.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
