William L. Smith (Walker), “Daddy”, “Big Red”,
“Buck”, “Uncle William”, a man of many names was
born April 14, 1947 to Henry Lee Smith and Annie
Walker – reared by Henry Walker.
On Saturday, April 23, 2022, William departed
from his earthly life at North MS Medical Center after
a long battle of unhealthiness.
William attended Carver High School and
graduated in the Class of 1966.
William was a loving, devoted and dedicated father.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his (5) daughters:
Nina Ashby of Tupelo, MS, Constance Fizer (Nate) of
Warren, MI, Charity Hill of Eastpointe, MI, Masalena
Taylor of Mt. Clemens, MI and Leminia Cooperwood of
Pontotoc; (3) sons: Elton Edwards (Yolanda), Thomas
Wade (Natasha) and Chase Meadows of Tupelo, MS;
(15) grandchildren: Ryan and Chelsea of Tupelo, MS,
Jordan of Eastpointe, MI, Jalen of Warren, MI, Jamal
and Brice of Pontotoc, Jordyn, Mariah, and Brandon of
Tupelo, MS, Elton Jr., London, Cody, Christian, Savey
and Nay Nay of Tupelo; (8) Great-Grandchildren; (5)
sisters: Betty Dilworth Fox (Bishop Obie Fox) of
Belden, MS, Margarett Smith and Brenda Smith of
Kalamazoo, MI, Patricia Sorrel of Belden, MS and
Mabel Williams of Grand Rapids, MI; (3) brothers:
Charles Smith and Zeamon Clyde Smith of Kalamazoo,
MI and Thomas H. Walker; a very special friend, Mr.
Hoyt Pitt and a host of nieces, nephews, other family
and very special friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Meadows
Wade of 36 years, his parents and his grandparent
