William K. Vardaman, Jr, 96, of Huntsville, AL passed away January 26th, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hunter Vardaman and his twin brother, Hunter Vardaman II. He is survived by his wife, Molly Ann Vardaman; daughters, Sheila Burgess (Ron), and Debra Browning (Tim) six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Vardaman was born in Birmingham, AL. He served in the US Navy 533rd Seabees during World War II. Later while serving in the National Guard in the 31st Infantry Division, he was activated into the Army in 1950, at the start of the Korean War.
Mr. Vardaman attended Auburn University and graduated from Samford University with a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology. He received a master’s degree from the University of Alabama in Administrative Science.
After a long career in Aerospace and Defense, he retired from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in 1984. He followed with an active career in space research and consulting fields. He was president of Vardaman Associates, LLC, an Aerospace and Defense consulting firm.
Visitation will be held at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, Huntsville, AL at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. A graveside service will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, at 1:30 p.m.
