William James South, Sr., 79, of Florence, passed away September 6, 2024. He was a graduate of Central High School.  After graduation he joined the U. S. Navy where he served in the Vietnam War.  He was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.  After the military, he worked and retired from Meadow Gold Dairy.  William was also a member of his Teamsters Local 402. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and also an avid Alabama football fan.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 1-2 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. with Wayne Gean officiating. His son and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. South was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Louise South; son, Willam “Slick” South, Jr.; brother, Charlie South; and nephew, Tristan South.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Rohling South; sons, Bradley South (Brandy) of Waterloo, and Tim Hunt (Heather) of Huntsville; daughters, Selena Hall of Florence, and Tasha Pounders (Tony) of Muscle Shoals; brothers, Earl, David (Wanda), and Keith South (Melissa); sisters, Mary Ruth Cox (Jimmy), Shelby Myhan (Larry), and Jewel Landrum (Charles); and sister-in-law, Sharon; daughter-in-law, Tammy South; grandchildren, Nathan (Crystal), Russ (Emily), Brady (Hailey), Justin, Adam (Shelby), Allen, and Hope South, Kayla Chambers (Chris), and Addison Pounders; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Clyde, Zoey, Waylon, Addilyn, and Bree; and a host of nieces and nephews.
