William H. Smith William Homer Smith,77 of Florence, Alabama passed away surrounded by his loved ones on June 26, 2023. Services will be held at Elkins Funeral Home in Florence beginning at 11 AM on Saturday, July 1, 2023. Burial will be at Pisgah Methodist Cemetery. Billy was the youngest of eight children born to Homer and Lessie Smith.

He is survived by siblings, Luvinia Watkins and Larry Smith.

In 1964, Billy married his first love Goldie Burns for 53 years. They went on to have three sons, Quentin Homer (deceased), Gregory (Rhonda), and Derek (Tracey). He also leaves behind two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Billy thought the world of his boys and was so proud of them both. He spoke of them and their accomplishments every given chance.

Following Goldie’s passing, Billy met the next love of his life, Connie Woods and they had a wonderful 4 years together.

Billy joined Connie’s family who welcomed him with open arms and loved him as their own father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and so on.  He was the loving dad and husband this new  family had ever known.

You could see the joy and love he had for all of them.

Billy leaves behind step-son Stevie Jones (CeeJae), Casey Jones (deceased), step-daughters Debra Woods, and Jackie Stamps (Joey). Brothers-in law Sonny (Debbie), David Woods (Becky), Jimmy Woods (Doris), Steve Woods (Sandra), and sister-in-law Sheila Duncan (James) along with a host of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The Woods love a family dinner or reunion (no small feat) and he enjoyed every minute, always finding someone he hadn’t seen in years or he was now related to.

His love and humor will be greatly missed by all and no day after will be the same without him.

The world is now missing a wonderful man with a big heart.

The family will be holding private services at a later date.

We want to thank Sonny and Debbie for being with the family, support and prayers.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to ICU nurses Melissa, Trinity, Linzee, Taylor, and the team of doctors at NAMC for their devoted care for him.
