William Evans Alison of Huntsville, AL passed away at his home on September 21, 2021.

He was born June 1, 1933, in Selma, AL to Olivia Evans Alison and Dr. James Fairly Alison. Dr. Alison attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and then medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans. He went on to do an internship at the University of Alabama Medical School in Birmingham. His medical studies were interrupted by a two-year tour of duty with the United States Air Force in Lubbock, TX, after which he returned to the University of Alabama Medical School in Birmingham for a three-year residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Following his medical training, Dr. Alison practiced medicine taking care of his private practice patients and often indigent patients in Huntsville for 38 years. He was a founder of Medical Center Hospital in 1968, which is now Huntsville Hospital Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

An enthusiastic golfer, Dr. Alison played in many tournaments, winning his fair share. He was also well known in the Walking Horse World for raising four world champions.

Dr. Alison is survived by his wife, Cecelia Diffly Alison; children, Lee Cathey Alison (June), Jim Cathey Alison (Karen), and Dr. William Evans Alison, Jr. (Christy); grandchildren, Clifton Alison (Dora), Mark Alison, Evans Alison III, Luke Alison, Mary Ellis Alison, Madelyn Alison; and one great grandchild, Silas Alison. Dr. Alison was preceded in death by his parents, his infant daughter, Ann Alison, and his brother James Fairly Alison, Jr. (Celia).

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, September 27 at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity with Father Michael Goldsmith officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, 208 Eustis Avenue, Huntsville, AL 35801.
