Mr. William Eugene Sisson, age 87, joined his heavenly Father on Thursday, May 16th.
He was the son of the late Otto and Etta Sisson and was born on November 28, 1936, in Phil Campbell, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Martha Bromley Sisson. Mr. Sisson grew up working alongside his father on their family farm in Franklin County, AL.
After the sudden death of his father at age 13, Mr. Sisson worked for various farmers and businesses to help his mother raise a family. He was a graduate of Phil Campbell High School and Florence State College. As a member of the ROTC while in college, he earned a degree in accounting and business administration. Gospel music was an important part of Mr. Sisson’s early life and he studied at the James D. Vaughn School of Music. He was a published songwriter and played piano for the Posey Quartet which was a popular Shoals area radio and travelling artist during the 1950s.
After graduating from college he served as a Reserve Commissioned Officer in the United States Army. He married in 1957 and began his career as an auditor for the General Accountability Office of the US government. The later part of his career was spent as a comptroller for the US Army at Redstone Arsenal. Mr. Sisson raised his family with his wife Martha in the East Limestone community and resided there for more than 50 years.
He is survived by his children, Bill, husband of Cindy Sisson, Susan, wife of Jeff McCluskey, and Lori, grandchildren; Matt, Brooke, Jacob, and Will and two great-grandchildren Ainsley and Cason. He was an active member of University Baptist Church in Huntsville, Al for 50 years where he also served as the Business Administrator.
His golden years were spent at Capshaw Baptist Church not only worshipping the Lord, but also serving as a group leader for the Senior Adult Class and enjoying the senior adult luncheons and activities. He was also active at the Huntsville Hospital Wellness Center, loved walking his loyal dog, Max, and enjoyed playing bridge at the Madison Senior Center.
Visitation will be held at 1:30 on Sunday, May 19th at Athens Spry Funeral Home with service to follow at 3:00.
