  Bill Steverson Profile PhotoWilliam Ervin “Bill” Steverson, 77, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2023, following a short illness.  He was born on May 27, 1945, in Columbus to Alton Jackson and Rebecca Lois Barrow Steverson.  Growing up in Columbus, he graduated in 1963 from Lee High School and furthered his education at Mississippi State University and East Mississippi Junior College where he played football for Coach Bull Sullivan.  He was a place kicker with impeccable stats, only missing one field goal in two years.  Bill married the former Donna Carolyn Thompson on November 27, 1964 and worked for ITT in Georgia for a number of years.  Later, he became a general contractor and build countless homes across north Mississippi, and he constructed the church building at Christian Chapel Church of Christ where he also served as an elder for several years.  He built the famed white house on Boulevard Drive in Amory, and he currently was a member of the Amory Church of Christ.  He would trade on just about anything, but mostly guns, and he loved to travel the country attending gun shows.  He was a conversationalist and liked nothing more than to visit and talk with his friends, who will serve as his honorary pallbearers.

Funeral services honoring Bill’s life will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home with ministers Abel Nicholas leading singing, Jonathan Godsey and Philip Hathcock will deliver eulogies, Leslie Grant will bring the message of comfort, and will conclude with Jay Thomas speaking.  Burial will be in Young Memorial Gardens in Smitvhille.

Left to cherish is memory are his wife, Donna Carolyn Thompson Steverson; one son, Wes Steverson (Michelle); two daughters, Kerry Steverson Baker and Paige Steverson Heady (Jason) all of Amory; his grandchildren, Dylan Baker, Harley Baker, Nash Heady, Jesse Steverson, J.T. Pitts, Marisa Jordan (Donald), and Jimmy Lee Steverson; great grandson, Donny Jordan; and cousins, Wayne Steverson, Janice White, Jody Steverson, and Rusty Steverson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by one brother, A.J. Steverson, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Dylan Baker, Nash Heady, J.T. Pitts, Tyler Colburn, Jay Thomas, Jeff Thomas, Mack Webb, Tom Carroll, Antwun Freeman, and Shawon Westbrook.

Honorary pallbearers will be Austin Marshall, Butch Barrett, Ed Best, Walter Bolton, Bill Brigham, Bruce Danner, Steve Cockerham, Johnny Cummings, Dan Cunningham, Mack Danner, Ricky Dobbs, Randy Edmundson, Ted Fines, Mitch Griffin, Sammy Hardin, Lynn Hester, Mike Deptha, Wayne Weatherbee, Paul McCreary, Shayne Grant, Jim Moran, Ernie Murphy, Jacky Palmer, Randal Jones, Mark Randolph, Roy Randolph, Randy Robertson, Clay Simmons, Peter Simmons, Dub Stafford, Jerry Welborn, Kevin Wright, Ya Yo, Frank Griffin, Kenny Bush, Jerry Jones, Bobby Head, Jim Kibe, Jimmy Williams, Steve Ward, Chris Caldwell, David Newman, Devin George, and Jose Leon.

Visitation will be on Thursday from noon until the service time.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and to Pinevale Children’s Home in Corinth.
