Funeral service for William Elkins Harris, age 89, of Decatur, will be Sunday, December 17, 2017, 3:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barry Sempsrott officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 16, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the chapel. The body will lie in state two hours prior to the service. Interment will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Harris, who died Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at his residence, was born March 3, 1928, in Troy, AL to Rufus Curry Harris and Ida Irene Dawkins Harris.
He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Duncan Harris; one son, Roy William Harris of Bucyrus, Ohio; one daughter, Elsie Lancaster of Douglas, Georgia; one stepson, Richard Payne of Charleston, W VA; four stepdaughters, Rema Summers and Cindy Briel, both of Smithville, NC, Susan Arnold of Boise, Idaho, and Lori Bordas of Louisville, KY; one sister, Nell Driggers of Vincent, AL; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Harold Coomer Ministries.
