William Edgar Blackburn, 84 went home to the Lord, Saturday, January 21, 2017 after bravely fighting illness for almost two years.
He will be joining his parents, brother Bobby; sisters Judy and Edis, his daughter Shelly; as well as his wife Carol and wife Doris, all of whom he loved dearly. He leaves behind his sister Kathleen, daughters Dawn and Kristie, his son John, and his grandkids; Katie, Tom, Taylor, Jonah, and Kyle.
Born in Vina, Alabama on March 26, 1932, “Bud/Bill” lived a long and eventful life. He graduated Nashville High School and at only 18 he enlisted in the Army saying he wanted to “do his part and serve his country”. He would go on to serve multiple tours in Korea with the 187th “Rakkasans” Infantry division holding the rank of staff sergeant. He returned home from the war an honored and decorated veteran.
He was an avid college football fan and could always be found wearing various University of Alabama hats. His love for the Crimson Tide was a devotion he passed to most of his children and grandsons and granddaughters.
He was so much to so many people. Veteran, father, grandfather, fellow Tide fanatic; but above all else he was a kindhearted, selfless human being who will be sorely missed by many.

On Saturday, January 28, 2017, 11:00 A.M. a memorial service will be held at Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville, with military honors. Afterwards inurnment will be in old Burleson Cemetery.
