William E. Price passed away peacefully at home in Belden on June 20, 2016. He was born in Charlotte, NC to Helen and Edward Price on July 7, 1929. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force. After leaving the service he obtained his B.A. at Aurora College in Chicago, IL, later receiving his M.Ed. at the University of North Carolina. He began his teaching career at Derita Junior High School, Charlotte, NC. He then began working with the US State Department relocating to Japan. While in Japan he completed course work at the Tokyo School of Japanese Language, University of Maryland Oversees, and Michigan State University Oversees. His love of education led him to various teaching opportunities in Stuttgart and Vilseck, Germany; Misawa, Chofu, Yokota, Yokusuka, and Okinawa, Japan and the Philippines. He especially enjoyed his time as the Director of Adult Education in Tachikawa, Japan (for all of Japan and Korea). Mr. Price supervised an Innovations Program for the Blind at Dilworth Elementary, Charlotte, NC, during a short break from Japan. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa; National Association of Elementary School Principals; Association for Supervision and Curriculum; and a charter member of the University of North Carolina Alumni. During his years abroad he enjoyed traveling. Two highlights from his travels are skiing in the Swiss Alps and being one of the first civilians to go behind the Iron Curtain. Upon retiring he moved to Del Ray Beach, FL later returning to North Carolina. Mr. Price moved to Belden in February of 2015.
He is survived by his special nephew, Robert J. “Bobby” Parks (Patti) of Belden; special nieces, Cynthia Canty (Troy) of Rock Hill, SC and Barbara Ledford of Knoxville, TN; two sisters, Betty Ingram of York, SC and Catherine Wells of Harrisburg, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Shirley Parks Culbreath of Knoxville TN.
