William Douglas “Doug” Matlock, age 81 of Buford, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at his residence in Ringgold, Georgia. He was born in Winchester on June 7, 1942, to the late A.G. Matlock and Sally Ann (Prince) Hall. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard. Before his retirement, Doug worked as a district manager for Dollar Tree. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed cheering for the University of Tennessee Volunteers and the Tennessee Titans. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach at Destin, Florida and to the mountains. Those who knew him will remember his wonderful sense of humor and ability to get a laugh out of others. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Sam Hall; sister, Sally Ann Chumley; and son, David Crowder. Doug is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Sue Matlock; children, Denise (Gerald) Henderson, William (Elaine) Matlock, and Michael Matlock; nine grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 10 am-12 on Friday, November 17, 2023, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 pm at Franklin Memorial Gardens with William Matlock, Michael Matlock, Dillon Crowder, Gerald Henderson, Brian Ferguson, Jeremy Henderson, and Joey Morgan serving as pallbearers.
