Dr. William Coleman Gibson, 97, of Fort Payne, passed away Monday, April 8, 2024. He was born May 21, 1926, in Ramer, Tennessee to the late Hillman Gibson and Martha Coleman Gibson. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he received a Bronze Star Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, as well as several other service medals. In 1955, Dr. Gibson began his practice of medicine in Middleton, Tennessee before moving to Fort Payne in 1958 where he practiced until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of First Methodist Church and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Methodist Life Center with Pastor Jeff Tate officiating and eulogy by Dr. Steve Isbell. Military honors will be rendered. Entombment will follow in Mt. View Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Friday from 12 noon until the 2 p.m. hour of service.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn B. Gibson; children William David Gibson (Gail), Margaret Carol Gibson Read (Wesley), Alan Coleman Gibson, Maurice Bert Ledford (Amy), Gena Ledford Kelly (Richard), and Anissa Ledford Wright (Anthony); 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Carmen, Edith, John David, and Helen and son Todd Warren Ledford.
