William Clarence Stone, Sr. William Clarence Stone, Sr. was born July 6, 1932, in LaFollette, TN, the son of Oren and Helen Green Stone. He died early in the morning of August 14 at Regency Rehab and Care Facility.

Most of his youth was spent in his beloved East TN. Following high school graduation, Bill joined the USAF where he served for 4 years. He and his family then moved to Knoxville for him to attend the University of TN. Bill graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering – which he was to his core – an engineer. Bill loved all things involving flying, building, woodworking, cars – anything that had parts that he could take apart and put together. He was very creative and could repair most anything from a rocket engine to a weed eater. Bill shared his God-given talents with friends and family all his life – being the go-to person for many repairs. That was his joy – using the talents God gave him.

His career brought him to Huntsville where he worked at Rohm and Haas Company in Huntsville til its closing. Following Rohm and Hass, the now Dr. Stone (UAH in Mechanical Engineering) and his wife began Stone Engineering Company where he continued his work primarily for the Army, Navy, and Air Force. His expertise in rocket propulsion was sought throughout the US and other countries. His work ethic, intelligence, and thoughtful evaluations were valued by those with whom he worked. Bill lived a good professional life.

His gratitude to his community was obvious as he volunteered in many areas of life including Habitat for Humanity, World Changers, The Vine Pastoral Counseling, Christian Job Corps, Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, and especially in so many ministries of First Baptist Church of Huntsville – his beloved church home for well over 50 years.

His love of community, church, and his profession were all vehicles for his treasured family life. It is those family members who will miss him the most. Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years Anne Glaze Stone, 4 children – Bill, Jr (Leslie) of Clinton, TN; David (Arlene), Steven, and Alice Buchholz (Thomas) – all of Huntsville, 8 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Bill lived a full and useful life. Those who loved him know that he now rests in the arms of our loving Father in that Church Eternal. Memorial gifts may be shared with Memorial Prayer Garden, First Baptist Church, Huntsville 35801 or Hospice of North AL.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, Aug 17 at First Baptist Church, Huntsville. Visitation 9:30 in the sanctuary, followed by services at 11:00.
