William Carl Zills – Obituary

Zills, Carl001William Carl Zills, of Florence, a well-known North Alabama Funeral Director, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 10, 2013. Carl had bravely fought cancer for the last five months. He was 82.

 

The service to remember his life will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Pentecostals of Florence church, 8588 County Road 200 (Old Savannah Hwy), Florence, across Savannah Hwy. from Murphy Bros. Landscaping. Bro. Bobby Crosswhite and Bro. Greg Daniel will officiate. Entombment will follow at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the church.

 

Carl will be remembered for his smile and hugs, his firm handshake, and for the compassion he had for the families he served. During his career of more than fifty years, he worked with his mentor Stanley Elkins, and he served as a mentor for many other young funeral home employees.

 

He enjoyed a good cup of coffee, was a friend and gentleman, and never spoke ill of others. Many appreciated the very positive attitude he had about his illness. He and his family owned Dean’s Florist.

 

Carl is survived by his wife Loudean Price Zills; a son Darryl Zills; nephew Tracy Zills; brother-in-law James D. Price and wife Ruth; niece Teresa Covey and husband Joe; aunt Louise Williams.

 

He was preceded in death by his father Albert Zills, Sr., mother Ruby Todd, brothers Albert Zills, Jr. and Buddy Zills; sister Hazel Austin; nephew Jimmy D. Price; mother-in-law Eva Price.

 

Pallbearers will be Tracy Zills, Jason Duggar, Carmon Ray, Joe Pitts, Luke Gans and Cleveland Ivy. Honorary bearers will be Steve Chenault and the employees of Elkins Funeral Home.

 

The family wishes to thank Dr. William Hobbs, Dr. Joseph Mokulis and the ECM nurses on 2nd West.
