William “Bill” Thomas Burke, of Huntsville, AL passed away peacefully Monday, April 11, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; children, Brandon Burke (Eleanna), Jason Burke, Pat Sanders, Don Sanders (Melissa), Merry Lynne Dyer (Kelly), and Bill Sanders (Dana); grandchildren, Amber Kilgore (Kyle), Cody Harrison, Allison Accardi (Burns), Riley Brechin (Josh), Trey Gordon, Jordan Sanders, Ty Sanders, Noah Sanders, Dawson Sanders, Emily Sanders, Abby Sanders, Hannah Sanders, Caleb Burke, Nathaniel Burke, Arielle Burke, and Hosanna Burke; great-grandchildren, Lathan Kilgore, Peyton Harrison, and Mary Elsie Kilgore; and sister, Jeanie Burke. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Gloria Burke and his three brothers, Charles Burke, John Burke, and Tim Burke.
Bill grew up in Charleston, WV where he attended Stonewall Jackson High School. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from service in November 1988 and was recalled for active duty during Desert Storm in 1990. Following retirement, Bill continued to work for numerous Department of Defense contractors until his full retirement in 2018.
Bill was a wonderfully loving husband, father, and grandfather affectionally known as “Grandpa Bill”. Bill loved spending time with his family and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He served the community by volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Backpack Ministries, Food for Thought, and King Food Ministries through Manna House.
Visitation will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 607 Airport Road, Huntsville, AL 35802 on Monday, April 25, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 12:00 p.m.
