William “Bill” Hugh West died on February 27, 2024, peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born on August 28, 1939, in Tuscumbia, Alabama to Hugh John and Mary Elizabeth West. He graduated from Deshler High School in 1957, in which he still enjoyed his class reunions. Bill was a true Tuscumbian. As a young man, he enjoyed rodeoing. He was an avid golfer at Tennessee Valley Country Club where he enjoyed playing with his family and friends. Bill was a devoted Alabama football fan. He was a member of Tuscumbia Church of Christ.
His greatest joy in life was being a father to his two sons and grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which they lovingly called him Bill.
Bill spent eleven years in the National Guard. He worked at Reynolds for twenty years and then continued working for McMackin Business Systems into his retirement.
Bill is survived by his wife, Geraldine “Gerri” West, of sixty years; two sons, Barry West (Leigh Anne) and Alan West (Tracie); four grandchildren, Brandon West (April), Hannah Siville (Cooper), Alana Wear (Austin), and Anna West; and three great-grandchildren, Brady West, Hadleigh West, and Cameron West.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at Morrison Funeral Home on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with brother-in-law, Lyle Hendrix, officiating. The family will welcome visitors prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Enhabit Hospice staff during this difficult time, especially Laura Lowery and Julie West.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Tuscumbia Church of Christ Youth Group.
