Bill was born on September 6, 1925, in Middleton, TN, and was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Nancy Joan Colwell Crawford, his parents Daniel Loyd Crawford and May Etheridge Crawford, a sister (Peggy Crawford Shearin) and brother (David Loyd Crawford).
After graduating from Middleton High School, Bill joined the Army Air Corps. Trained as a B-29 tail gunner, Bill flew a number of bombing missions over Japan. At the end of World War II, he was transferred to Germany where he served out his enlistment. After his military service, he moved to Memphis, and worked for a while at the old GE Light Manufacturing facility. He was later employed by Memphis, Light, Gas & Water and Tennessee Valley Authority, working almost thirty years at the Allen Fossil Plant. Both Bill and Joan were long-time members of the Getwell Church of Christ. Bill retired in 1985 from TVA, and he and Joan moved to Bolivar, TN in 1986 where they were members of the Bolivar Church of Christ.
Bill leaves two sons, Rick (Susan) Crawford of Bartlett, TN, and Phil (Rhia) Crawford of Marion, NC; one sister, Pat Crawford Smith of Lakeland, TN; four grandchildren, Matthew (Allye) Crawford, Shay (Stephanie) Crawford, Justin Crawford, and Megan Crawford Armstrong (Daniel); and one great grandchild, Hudson Crawford.
