Funeral Services for Mr. William “Big J” Johnson, age 47 of Anniston, will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland at 5:00 P.M. with Rev. Jason Watkins officiating. His visitation will begin at 3:00 P.M. until service time at 5:00 P.M.
Mr. Johnson passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at his home in Anniston. Mr. Johnson was born in Ashland, was raised between Delta and Bowdon, Georgia and was a graduate of Lineville High School. He worked for the Piggly Wiggly in Lineville for 13 years at the counter, in the meat department, and as an assistant manager. Following that job, he worked for Wellborn Cabinet’s for 8 years in the paint department and as an inspector. He lastly worked for the Cosco Pipeline for a short period of time. Mr. Johnson enjoyed hunting and fishing, and shooting his guns every now and then. “Big J”, as he was affectionately known, was outgoing and personable, enjoyed watching Westerns and the show “Street Outlaws”, and his coworkers loved him, and would ask about him often to his family. Mr. Johnson attended Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Gloria Gilbert Johnson of Anniston; his step-daughter, Rayne Ivy; his father, Johnny Johnson (Brenda) of Ashland; one sister, Connie Thrower (Fiancé Tony Key) of Anniston; one brother, Andy Johnson (Lori) of Rome, Georgia; his father in law, Keith Gilbert (Wynema) of Ashland; Brother-in-laws: Brad Gilbert (Sherrie) of Lineville, Payton Gilbert (Heidi) and Blaine Gilbert (Katie), both of Ashland; his step-brothers: Al McMath (Linda) of Kentucky, Joel McMath (Karen) of Cragford, and Jared Robertson of Auburn; his aunt and Uncle, Eddie and Pat Rivers of Rome, GA; his nephews: Brady Thrower, Drake Johnson and Garrett Johnson, plus a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Sue Albert.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeremy Johnson, Justin Johnson, Michael Johnson, and Brad Gilbert.
