William Benton "Pete" Kirk Profile PhotoWilliam Benton Kirk, affectionately known as Pete, passed away on November 9, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Madera, California, on April 21, 1936, Pete led a life filled with hard work and cherished hobbies.

Pete dedicated many years as a milk processor at Madera Quality Dairy. Later in his career he worked for a pool company specializing in pool plastering.

The nickname Pete came from a family member who was too young to pronounce “sweet” correctly, and thus he became Pete. He was a particular person who liked things done a certain way. This trait extended beyond his professional life and influenced all aspects of his existence.

One of Pete’s greatest joys was indulging in various hobbies and interests. He enjoyed carving intricate figures from blocks of wood, fishing, or playing a nice game of pool or horseshoes. Pete was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching NASCAR races, baseball, and football. He was a lifelong fan of westerns, and enjoyed watching the classics.

It is impossible to mention Pete’s pastimes without acknowledging his dedication to staying informed on the news. As an avid viewer, he placed great importance on staying up-to-date with current affairs. His commitment was so steadfast that the news station logo became permanently imprinted on his beloved television.

Pete’s impact on the world extends beyond his professional achievements and personal passions. He will forever hold a special place in the hearts of his surviving family. Nada Gibbins Kirk, his loving wife of 68 years, stood by his side through thick and thin, bringing him unwavering support and unconditional love.

Pete deeply cherished his daughter, Lori Woody, who brought immense joy to his life. Lori along with her husband Van, shared countless memories with Pete and Nada together. Pete’s granddaughter, Taylor Thompson, and her husband Johnny were a constant source of pride for him. The arrival of Pete’s great-grandchildren—Jackson, Navy and Wright Thompson—brought immeasurable happiness into his later years. Pete was a family man and lived a life surrounded by cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his loving daughter, Kary Lynn Kirk, his parents Berry (William Joseph) and Lily Mae Kirk, as well as siblings Clara Kirk Banks, J.B. Kirk, Quovada Kirk Hill, Nealon Kirk and Richard Dean Kirk.

Pete leaves behind indelible memories as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. May his legacy inspire others to love deeply.

In honor of Pete’s memory, the family will celebrate his life at a later time.
